Getting enough sleep is crucial for the body to function properly, according to the NHS.
About one in three people in the UK suffer from poor sleep.
Sleep deprivation can lead to feeling grumpy, and not performing at your best.
It could also increase your risk of some life-threatening conditions, including heart disease and diabetes.
But, you could benefit from getting a better night’s sleep by resting on your side, according to clinical sleep educator, Terry Cralle.
“While there are many variations of sleeping on your side, all of which are beneficial in helping to alleviate insomnia and chronic sleep deprivation, the most comfortable position involves bending the knees slightly upward toward the chest,” said Cralle.
“Sleeping on your side is encouraged for those suffering from back or hip pain.
“It’s also recommended for pregnant women, specifically the left side.”
But, you should avoid sleeping on your stomach, as it could cause lower back and neck pain, Cralle said.
People that sleep on their front are also more likely to suffer from restlessness.
